Anand Giridharadas is one of our nation’s most incisive critics of capitalism. I also beat him at tennis the other day.
Anand and I are friends and neighbors, and whenever we get together, talk often turns to our upside-down economy and what to do about it.
Oftentimes, we’re coming at the same problem from different perspectives. I spend a lot of time thinking about how companies and executives can make deliberate choices that serve the interest of the commons. Anand is often more focused on how external forces — regulations, protests, prison sentences — can inspire the same sort of reforms.
Which is why this conversation was so fun. Anand was generous enough to chat with me about my new book, DIRTBAG BILLIONAIRE, which was published today, (Buy! Share! Review!) and we got into all sorts of issues, including the problem with the public markets, the role of business journalism in more.
